4 ways to take your water from potable to remarkable

Would you hesitate between drinking a big glass of tap water and getting a right hook to the jaw even during a heat wave? Then you need to rethink your drinking water supply. Fortunately, we’ve thought of everything. Here are four things you can do to solve the issue…

1- Purify your water at the source

Do you turn up your nose at the water that comes out of your tap? Disposable water bottles aren’t the solution. Why not choose one of the many water purification devices available on the market?

The filter jug: While this option is easy to adopt, it has a few drawbacks, such as a monthly fee to replace the filter. Also, once non-chlorinated, water in the carafe gets contaminated very quickly. Ideally, you should drink its contents within 24 hours.

The under-sink water purifier: Do you want your water to taste like the finest angel tears? This type of device delivers the closest thing to them. When it comes to purifiers, several options are available to you with a little help from your plumber.

  • Option 1 – Osmosis plant: This device’s many filters and membranes extract 99% of the impurities from your cold water. However, like a cheerful puppy playing a skunk, it requires your full attention to be at his best. It also letches minerals from water and requires four litres of water to generate one litre of drinking water.
  • Option 2 – Water ionizer: This device delivers pure alkaline water at a slightly higher price than the osmosis plant.
  • Option 3 – Water softener: This device transforms hard water into fresh water like magic. Once lime is removed from water, it not only tastes better, but it will also extend the lifespan of your appliances and pipes. There are two types of softeners on the market: resin (the most popular) and CO2 (guaranteed to be more independent than your teen).

The tap filter: This device is an easy-to-install add-on you can screw directly onto your tap. While it’s about as elegant as an elephant in a tutu, it gets the job done at little cost. However, be sure to replace the recyclable cartridge regularly.

2- Say no to lead pipes

Was your house built before 1980? Your drinking water may be tainted with traces of lead that are harmful to your health. To identify lead pipes, go to your water inlet with these tips in hand. If the tests are conclusive, consider updating your plumbing for the new millennium.

3- Run the water before drinking

Unlike wine, water does not taste better with age. As a preventive measure, run the water every day to flush out any undesirable cuvée that has stagnated in your pipes. A simple morning shower or flushing the toilet will do the trick while avoiding waste.

4- Prioritize cold water

Has anyone ever told you that: hot water = water heater = traces of lead? For cooking and drinking, you should always use cold water.
